Speech and Language Therapy

Having thoroughly assessed each child and discussed the findings with their parents, a suitable therapy programme will be devised and implemented. Therapy will be tailored to each child’s individual needs. Intervention may include: regular one-to-one therapy sessions usually of 50 minutes duration (these may take place at the child’s home, education setting or a combination of both), a home-programme with suggested activities and the provision of resources, a school-programme with strategies/activities, suggested IEP targets (if the child has an IEP or Individual Education Plan) and the provision of resources to assist a member of staff to work with the child on a one-to-one or small group basis. The therapist may also suggest group therapy lead by themselves involving one or more children with speech and language issues. This may take place in the centre or school setting as appropriate.

Each child will have a clear, measurable set of therapy goals (these can be incorporated into the child’s IEP). Targets will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis and the progress made summarised in a report. Should a child be accessing Speech and Language Therapy from the local NHS Service, Starjumpz therapists will always try to liaise with the Speech and Language Therapist and work collaboratively. They will also liaise with other therapists such as OTs and physiotherapists working with the child.
